Artist Residency at Community Clay

As usual, the caveat to this blog is that it's written 100% by a human. That means ramblings and typos are likely present.

Did you know we have an Artist Residency program at Community Clay? Well we do! It's not open for artists to apply to, per se, it's more of a IYKYK kind of thing.

It was started in 2025 when artist and friend A.L. Grime hit me up with a proposal - she wanted to learn ceramics and she wanted to be our first resident artist. The answer of course was HELL YEAH, then we took a deep breath and then spent some time figuring out what that meant.

I had been wanting to create an artist residency program for a while, but didn't really know how to start it. My vision was to have professional artists whose medium is something other than ceramics learn ceramics. Enter A.L. Grime! She wrote a proposal that was very hard to say no to and she became our first Artist in Residence!

At the end of her residency, she gifted us with an incredibly beautiful mural and we had an epic show where she sold out of almost everything she made!

And to add to the gifts, she also introduced us to Steven Yazzie, our second Resident Artist. He is currently inching toward the end of his residency and his work is mindblowing!
